    As a Red Sox fan, I would have to say goodness no.

    Life is a constant weighing of pros and cons.

    Pros of NY:
    A job (and a 10,000 other prospective IT jobs);
    1,000,000 unmarried women between 18 and 35 (in a couple of weeks that’s going to interest you again);
    All the thrills of a large city;

    Cons of NY:
    Expensive city;
    16,000,000 lonely souls, and you’re going to be the 16,000,001st one;
    All the thrills of a large city.

    A couple of months ago I made the tactless blunder of calling your country a “continent instead of a country”. After that remark your mom threatened me to throw me into a lion’s pit full of US truck drivers, so I will try to express myself more careful this time. :-)

    Your country coincides with a continent and to me it seems that the distance StL – NY is around 1,000 miles. In other words: it is going to be a MAJOR move, in all senses. From my very own experience I know that you will only survive these things if you go with a group of people (read: family) you can fallback to, and I don’t see you in that position now. Personally I think that moving to New York is going to be too hard for you.

    Yes, you love NY and you need to try it. I agree the move will be hard, but life is a series of challenges and I believe that you are up to the challenge. I also know you can always come home.

    another thing — this is not the end all be all, the only opportunity you will ever have to move to the city. if you don’t think you’re up for it right now, maybe you shouldn’t go. you can visit me and spend some time there over the next few years, and if you change your mind, if you decide new york is where you want to be, then you can find a different job and make it happen. yes, this job kind of fell into your lap, making things easy, and that might not happen again. but there are a million jobs in new york, and they’ll still be there later…

    I have tried to stay out of it, because it must be YOUR OWN decision, but I urge you to carefully think out the logistics of what is involved, not just the emotions. Life is constantly changing.

    I’m not sure which one I should say. I wouldn’t recommend moving until you have something lined up. Save up in the meantime if you can.
