So Your Dad Worked with Aliens?

I made a mistake the other day. This isn’t news, really, but the result of this mistake is a little bit entertaining. And you’d probably rather read about that than me talking about how much I miss home.

So I was on the subway, because that is how I get everywhere now. To pass the time on the subway I listen to my iPod. Specifically my iPod Shuffle. It is small, and I don’t really listen to that many songs at a time, and if it gets stolen I don’t really care cause I didn’t spend that much on it. It is the perfect subway music companion for me.

Alright, so I’m on the subway, and there is this guy sitting next to me who LOOKS perfectly normal. I’m listening to my music, he’s sitting there. It’s all good. And then I take my iPod out to change the song I’m listening to. And he starts to talk to me.

“Is that an iPod?”

I made the mistake of taking my headphones out of my ears and responding.

“Yeah.”

“Wow, that is tiny.”

“Yep, it is one of the new ones.”

“I really wish my daddy was around to see all this new technology.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah, he used to work on the anti-matter cannons that we stole from the alien spaceships at Area 51.”

Whoa. At that point I didn’t know what to do or say. I just kept nodding my head for a while until he started to shut up and I quickly put my headphones back on and moved on with my life. But it was still pretty shocking.

So my advice to any of you who ever end up on the subway – for the love of God, leave your headphones on.
