There is this commerical for the Army that I hate. I don’t hate it because it is for the Army or anything. No, I hate it because it is technologically stupid.
The scene: Some police pull up to a corner where some teenagers are hanging around. It looks like they are going bust the hooligans for being little punks. But instead the cop asks for help from one of the kids. See, their laptop has crashed, and this kid contains the knowledge to help them. His knowledge, though, is stupid.
“Reboot with F8 in safe mode”. That’s all he says. And then he walks away. That’s it! WTF?!?!?! So he tells to police to boot their laptop into a diagnostics mode and then walks away without helping them solve the problem?!?! Surely this laptop is AT LEAST using some special drivers that are not going to be loaded in safe mode. And the police probably aren’t going to work with the limited screen resolution. Why does this kid walk away without actually fixing the problem?
Is this what our Army wants? People who half ass things? People who don’t stick a problem through to completion? People who know one little bit of trivial knowledge and use this to make themselves seem smart?
I think the real lesson to be learned here is that I need to stop watching TV that advertises to people wanting to join the army.

Hahahahahaaaaaa, totally. Thank God we don’t have that commercial in STL, otherwise I’d be really embarrassed for us.
*grins* I had the same reaction. It’s so sad…
Actually Liz, we do have that commercial in the ‘Lou… but it might be just on cable channels. But I know I remember seeing it.
And now that I know the impracticality of it, I’m not sure whether to laugh or cry…
