Sucks. I do not like it.
I’ve even narrowed down the area from “anywhere” to “East of Kingshighway, south of Lindell, north of Forest Park Blvd., and west of Sarah.
Any hints for dealing with this horrible experience? Please!

Have you tried apartment search?
Also, what in particular is horrible about your search? I’m guessing since you narrowed your search area that you found too many options. Which is probably good news since the area you selected is a relatively expensive area to get an apartment. Or at least it was 18 months ago when I was looking for an apartment.
Also, let me assure you that your apartment search cannot in any way possible be worse than my last apartment search. You don’t know awkward until you’ve been to visit a building where the landlord tells you when you arrive that the current residents are still living there (and present while this is being said) but they’ll be evicted soon. Or had a landlord take your deposit but then decline to ever contact you again and you have to google him to figure out where he works and harass him there to get your deposit back.
I get easily overwhelmed by the amount of choices, and then get distraught when the place you are going to see turns out to be crap. But nothing like what you describe, so I should consider myself lucky.
And yes, that area is expensive. In part, tho, my spending limits have been completely altered by my time in New York.
