Wal-Mart Health Care

Recently there has been a bill in Maryland that would force Walmart to pay more for health care for it’s employees. Republicans are saying that this is bad for business and is socialistic and blah blah blah.

Well, guess what. When Walmart DOESN’T give its employees health insurance, those employees end up relying on the government for health care, which ends up costing the taxpayers, and ultimately is MORE socialistic.

I don’t know where I side on this issue, because I haven’t thought about it much, but I think a point that it missed is that if Walmart doesn’t pay for this, then I will, and that is not in keeping with the ideals that most conservatives state.

This is a very old problem. They were talking about socialized medicine when I was in college. At that time hospitalization insurance was available and actually a pretty good deal. Mainly people paid doctors out of pocket as individuals. There were city hospitals and clinics for the indigent. The AMA came out strongly against any govt. involvement, and this has been debated ever since. Now it is a jungle of red tape with ridiculous costs, but I really dont see any good way to handle it. Government seems to mess up everything in which they are involved, yet health care is a necessity and it doesnt seem right to have it decided by where you happen to work. I have reached the point in life where I no longer have all the answers.
