Training

In general I really love training at work. I get paid to go to class and learn useful stuff. And lots of times there is free food. Or at least free hot chocolate. And who doesn’t love free hot chocolate? Sure, the quality is a little less than most of my college classes, but the practicality is THROUGH THE ROOF compared to a lot of what I took.

This week has been a little different, however. I’ve been taking a SQL class. An intro SQL class. And the following bit isn’t going to make sense to anyone who doesn’t know SQL, but whatever. Just pretend. The class has gone something like this:

Day 1-
select * from employees

Day 2-
insert into employees (name) values(‘Nathan’)

Day 3-
select * from employees inner join location on employees.locid = location.id

I’m barely exaggerating here. It has been that boring. So I’ve resorted to surfing the internet a LOT and paying very little attention to what is going on. It is maddening to me that my bosses didn’t even ask me if I knew any of this stuff. Actually, what they did is assume that I didn’t know this stuff, and it is pissing me off that they keep treating me like a moron and not letting me do anything on my own.

Well hopefully tomorrow will be better. Stored Procedures, here I come.
