I’m fed up with my Sidekick phone and have decided now to get rid of it. At first I thought that it was going to be the greatest thing ever. Email everywhere. Internet on a phone. A full keyboard for text messaging. It especially seemed good since I had grown used to having a Blackberry and email all the time.
Well 5 months later it has turned into a complete and utter failure. In fact it has gotten to the point where I absolutely hate the thing. And I think that the reason is because I went against “Nathan’s Only Rule of Cell Phones” which is “A cell phone should be small and only make phone calls.” Well this piece of crap is not small, and it isn’t especially good at making phone calls. Actually, I’d go so far as to say that it is awful at making phone calls and it is the size of a brick.
But still, I knew that going in. I had read the reviews. But I figured that the email and keyboard would make up for it. Nope. The email is completely unreliable. Sometimes I won’t get an email until several days after it was sent, meaning I can’t depend on it for actually getting anything. The keyboard is nice, but since I never use it for email, since it is unreliable, and since I hardly ever text message, it is pretty much worthless. It does mean that you have to use this awkward keyboard thing for dialing the phone, though, and that is a pain in the ass.
Some other things I hate about it. There is no way to stop the ringers once they have started – if you get an email you have to let the email sound run to completion to stop it. It costs me $25 extra a month for the service. The internet service is slow and the browser cannot display any pages reliably. The flip screen is a pain in the ass to use.
I could keep going, but I won’t. I’m just going to get rid of it. In fact, my new SLVR is on the way, and I can’t wait. But if anyone knows of anyone who wants a Sidekick, lemme know. I’ll give them a hell of a deal.
