Let me start by saying I have no right to write anything about Eurovision. I didn’t even know what Eurovision was until yesterday, but I got a little bored at work today and spent some time investigating it. Now I’m mad that I don’t live in Europe and will have to follow it over various internet websites, like YouTube.
Anyway, what is Eurovision? Well, imagine American Idol. Except it is with bands. And each country chooses one group to be the representative of their country to go compete against the bands from the other countries. To me this sounds even better than American Idol. It combines all of the goodness of American Idol, with all the goodness of real bands, with all the goodness of the Olympics. How is that not just the bomb?
So I’ve been doing a little research to figure out who I want to win. The first band I found, and actually the way I was introduced to this whole concept, through a friend of my mom’s, who reads this website actually, is “Texas Lightning”. They are a German country group, and the song they are competing with is called “No No Never”, which I bought today. What is really amazing is that they sound like a country band. And they are good. I completely love them. I think the lead singer woman is from Australia, which would explain why she has NO accent when she sings. Check them out – here
The only other “band” I have really listened to is some guy named Daz Sampson who also has 5 girls dressed up like school girls. His song is pretty good. You can find out more about him here.
That’s about as far as my research has gone. Well, I did listen to part of the Icelandic and part of the Romanian entries. The Icelandic one frightened me deeply. I think people in Iceland have nothing better to do than come up with ways to be scary. And ways to do bad things with fish. And I couldn’t even find Romania on a map.
I think the only conclusion to be made here is that the public schools have failed me deeply.
