For those of you in foreign lands, who may not know, this past Thursday those of us in the States celebrated Thanksgiving, or the day that we give thanks to those of us who have given things to us. We celebrate this by cooking a bird and sitting around a table. Sometimes there is football, and sometimes, if you are bad at the bird part, fire and death.
So normally Thanksgiving is not my favorite holiday. I like it more than Halloween, but that is only because Halloween has to be my least favorite holiday, just because I say so. I’d say that it ranks somewhere between Veteran’s Day and Easter. This, despite the fact that we get two days off. I think, in general, this is because it signals the beginning of the “holiday season”, which is normally stressful and depressing and not fun.
But this year is different. This year I’m really excited about the Holiday season. And this year, I was really excited about Thanksgiving. And this year, Thanksgiving turned out to be wonderful.
It has become a tradition for me to cook The Thanksgiving Meal (TTM) with Charley. This year, however, we had an interloper. A very welcome interloper. Kelly the Interloper. She helped out a lot, and it was really nice having her around. I like her.
The food turned out great, and we played catch afterwards, and no one fought or anything. It really couldn’t have been any better.
Oh wait, yes it could have. My traitorous brother decided that he was going to leave us for the vast hinterlands of Minnesota (TM) and spend Thanksgiving with his girlfriend (Helen). Now don’t get me wrong. I love Helen. But I’m also selfish, and I didn’t like Phil being gone for Thanksgiving.
But still. Overall, it was good.
