Since getting diabetes I’ve had a lot of diet soda. I only get to drink real soda when my blood sugar is low and I need a lift. So when I want soda, diet it is.
First off, let me make it clear that no matter what anyone says, diet is not as good as regular. Sure, there are some pretty decent diet sodas out there, but if I could just drink real soda, I definitely would. It tastes better, and has much less of a gross aftertaste.
Diet Coke is what I drink the most, only because it is the most available. It is also pretty bad. I almost can’t drink it out of a can. Fountain Diet Coke is better. But still my least favorite. Diet Pepsi is much better, but still pretty bad. I think the problem is that diet versions of regular “cola” are lacking too much. Cola isn’t special enough to get rid of real sugar and still have something you want to drink.
So that leads to the other sodas. The ones that survive the trip to dietdom best of all. Diet Dr. Pepper is sort of the king here. It is almost as good as regular Dr. Pepper. You really can’t even tell it is a diet unless you really try. Even better is black cherry and vanilla diet Dr. Pepper. I think generally the more flavors you add to a diet, the better you are. Except in the horribly misguided Berries and Cream Diet Dr. Pepper. That stuff is vile. Avoid.
I’ve had some Diet Root Beer, but it didn’t really do it for me. Diet Cherry Coke, however, is awesome.
Finally, I’ve seen some new Pepsi Jazz sodas out there, which look like diet weirdness. Does anyone have any experience with these? Or other diet sodas in general? And I don’t mean Tab.

I just took a poll:
Mumbs doesn’t drink soda. NuNu’s not here.
Did that help?
I really like the diet Dr. Pepper.
I don’t drink soda, but Eileen, who is a fan of Diet Pepsi and Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi, absolutely hated the Jazz soda. It is now sitting in our fridge untouched since she tried it.
I LOVE Diet Cherry Coke!! I can’t enjoy diet sodas right now because of the whole impending baby thing.. they tell you to avoid aspartame and all the other “chemical” things in diet beverages… but diet cherry coke rocks… If ever you are in a fountain only situation… do diet coke with a splash of cherry coke on top. If your sugars can allow for a teeny bit. Don’t in any situation put Grenadine in your diet coke thinking that you are going to make it taste like the real thing that Coca Cola makes for us… it just wont happen.
I LOVE Diet Cherry Coke… I haven’t been able to enjoy it since I got pregnant. (“they” tell you to avoid diet anything because of the aspartame and other stuff… plus there’s just no nutrition there..) but Diet Cherry Coke is your best bet in my opinion. Diet Mountain Dew is also quite tolerable. But yes I say avoid the Jazz stuff… it just looks scary. Like Pepsi Clear. Just a weird weird substance.
I LOVE Diet cherry vanilla Dr. Pepper. I’m not a Dr. Pepper fan in general, and I really don’t like cherries in the least, so this is a big feat for any soda. It’s delicious. I don’t even drink the regular cherry vanilla Dr. Pepper.
I tried the strawberry jazz. It paled in comparison, unfortunately.
ok… so i thought one of those comments didn’t post… so then i sorta retyped another one because i couldn’t really remember what all i had said… so seriously, im not that passionate about diet cherry coke… i just didnt think my comment posted… im not nuts… i swear.
the jazz ones are good, if you can overlook the lame, girly packaging. the strawberries and cream one is too sweet, i think, but the black cherry and vanilla is good. i also suggest diet pepsi lime and diet pepsi lemon. those are quite tolerable. and have you had coke zero? i think it takes like the real thing.
I agree, diet cherry coke, is awesome. Diet Coke in China is also awesome, and MUCH better than it is in America, i think they drink the same in Europe – any way to custom order that? they must use a different sweetener. as a recovering soda addict, i must say that diet coke in china tastes nearly identical to real coke.
According to my friend Kristin, Diet Pepsi Jazz Strawberries & Cream tastes like eating chapstick.
