Old Skool Gaming

So I recently bought the Wii, and it is great. It is perfect for me, because I don’t really want to spend hours devoted to playing video games, and I don’t really have hours to devote to playing video games. But the Wii has games that you can just pick up, play for a while, and then move on with your life. It is sort of a throwback in that regard.

But now I’ve gotten into old Atari games. Last night Kelly and I tried to play her 2600 but it wasn’t working quite right. So I ordered a new motherboard for it, and hopefully that’ll be here soon and we can get it up and running. But I also remember having an Atari 7800 when I was a little kid. Everyone else had a nintendo, but we had the 7800, and I’m glad for that. I think it is way cooler to have grown up on Atari. And then I watched a video the other day about the Atari 5200, a system that I didn’t even know existed.

Now I’m pretty excited about the old ataris. They have games that you can play in just a few minutes. Pick up Joust and play it for 10 minutes, and then move on with your life. That’s pretty much perfect for me.

I’ve spent some time reading about other old games, and old games are just way more appealing to me. I want to go out and find a Turbo Grafix 16 emulator now. And a Sega Master System. Who cares about new games? Give me 20 year old games, and I’ll be thrilled.
