I Fell For It

Some of you may have heard of “Harry Potter”. Best I can tell it is a fad that has been going on for about 10 years now. And because this little wizarding fellow is so popular, I’ve always avoided reading any of the books about him, or the movies that carefully document his life. In fact, my knowledge of Harry was limited to seeing the first movie once many years ago.

Well Tuesday night the 5th in the series of movies chronicling the life and travels of this young man was released, and I went and saw it because I agreed to go with Kelly. Well anyway, I found myself actually enjoying the movie, and after a fair amount of deep self examination, I decided to give the books a try.

And so it came to pass that today I finished the first Harry Potter book. And it was pretty good. It was an easy read, and I enjoyed it, and now I’m going to move onto the second. And then, if that one is any good, the third, and so on.

I’m not ready to call myself a fan. But maybe I’m just deluding myself. Maybe I just don’t want to admit that maybe I should have tried reading these years ago.

I avoided reading them too, because they were “all the rage.” I don’t like getting caught up in those things…but then I feel so isolated when the whole world is talking about it and I have no clue. That’s my excuse for finally watching american idol. I am so ashamed.

I could give or take the Harry Potter movies so far. Should I really try the books?

Hooray! Sometimes, JUST sometimes, things are popular for a reason (i.e. they’re good) and I think Harry Potter is one of those examples. She’s not the best writer, but the characters and the magic world are so much fun it’s hard to put the books down.

By the way, are you excited that David Beckham is in America now or are you over soccer since I’ve talked to you last?

Even your old granny enjoys Harry Potter. I have not read the books, but enjoy the movies when they come on TV. It is very creative, a totally different world.

I just finished the 2nd book, and I’d definitely recommend giving them a try.

As for David Beckham, I am excited. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to see him play.
