Well, I still haven’t decided who I am going to vote for, but I know for sure who I will not vote for. And that is Ron Paul.
While I really like his beliefs about freedom, there are a lot of his views that I just don’t agree with on such a deep level that I couldn’t stand to see him become president.
I think his stance on the income tax and the Federal Reserve and the gold standard would be very detrimental to the economy. I know that his supporters and lots of people on the internet thinks that this sounds like a good idea, but from the reading I’ve done and the people I’ve talked to (like Phil), it seems like it could really do a lot of harm, and lacks a fundamental understanding about how monetary policy and central banks work.
His views on gay marriage are personally offensive to me, as are his views about abortion.
And that’s enough right there to want me to not vote for him, although I could toss in that I think his non-interventionist policies are a little naive, and remind me a little too much of the US before WW1. That is not how I’d like to see the country behave. Certainly immediately pulling out of Korea and cutting off our relationship with Isreal are not things that I want to see happen.
So sorry, Ron. I think I’m gonna have to go with Barack.

Israel is one of the richest and tiniest nations in the entire world. They make an absolute fortune selling arms to India and Pakistan and others… their average citizen has three times the purchasing power as the average U.S. citizen. Why on earth should our tax dollars be sent to them to the tune of the recently upgraded $20 billion dollars over the next few years? That’s horseshit. Our own infrastructure is falling appart. We have homeless, hungry and ill people of our own and we’re sending them money that is earmarked for killing people and thereby creating enemies for US? Where’s the sense?
You responded to ONE of my points, interestingly the one I feel least strongly about. You also responded saying that we’re sending them money when we have “homeless, hungry, and ill” people on our own, something that from as far as I can tell, Ron Paul has no plans to help with. So I’m not sure what you’ve proven here…
