It has been a month since I left Wash U, and about 3 weeks that I’ve been working at UMSL, so I guess it is time for an update.
THINGS ARE WEIRD!
My work environment couldn’t be more different than it was at Wash U. I have an office, and I hardly ever see or talk to anyone. This isn’t really bad or good, just different.
And the projects I’m working on are of a completely different scale. I’m trying to bring some of the standards that I learned at WU into what I do now, but it doesn’t seem like those sorts of procedures are used at UMSL. It is more “get the job done as fast as possible”. And again, I don’t know if it is bad or good, just different.
I definitely like it at UMSL so far, but I’m not good at change, so I have a lot of “what am I doing?” moments. I think in the long run it is going to be great. But everything is hard in the short run. I just wish I knew of some way to make the short run better. To convince myself that everything will get “normal” again.
Maybe my first paycheck will help with that.

“Sometimes…things are weird.”
While “different” can be hard the alternative is “same old, same old.”
