I think this website offers some interesting insights into the film... http://dannymiller.typepad.com/blog/2005/05/gold_bless_you_.html

my own personal take on "The Graduate" is that sometimes pple don't realize that it's the chase, the pursuit of something unreachable, that consumes us. when/if we reach that goal, all we're left with is a hollow emptiness.

To me, the ending of the film embodies the question "what now?"
and in this sense, i think the ending ultimately evokes a dismal and rather sad outlook on life's prospects.

When I was growing up, I would always ask your grandmother how a movie ended and she would claim not to remember. I thought she was lying but now I know it's just genetic. So if you were the one who didn't like how the movie ended...just wait a few weeks. It'll be gone and you can enjoy the fuzzy blank space where the ending used to be.

You also might want to watch "Rumor Has It" with Jennifer Anniston and Kevin Costner, especially if you like those actors' work. The premise is good and involves "The Graduate".
