Well it turns out that the train was pretty good. Most importantly, I didn’t get sick. I did take a bunch of Dramamine, and had I not done that I probably would have gotten sick, because you rock back and forth quite a bit.
So I’ve decided to put together a list of the pros and cons I’ve come up with about the train, because I’m in a “list” mood, as opposed to a “paragraph” mood.
Good things:
- Big seats
- Can get up and wonder around
- Get to see the countryside pass by
- No security to deal with
Bad things:
- Uncomfortable seats
- Takes much longer than is reasonable
- Stations are a little sketchy
- Can’t get to enough places easily
So yeah, that sums it up pretty well. I definitely enjoyed riding the train, and would take it if I were going to Chicago again. I’d even be interested in taking it out to San Francisco, even though that would take like a week, but it could be a fun little vacation.
I’m gonna have to say that for most things, though, it makes way more sense to fly or drive.

You got it right, both pros and cons. I used to love the trains when I was little, but was terrified of walking between cars when the train was moving.
