I have come to a conclusion. White peaches are the perfect fruit. In fact, they are far superior to yellow peaches in every way. Except for the fact that they are ridiculously hard to find. Every once in a while, Hill Schnucks will have them. Otherwise, it is hit and miss. Especially this time of year.
However, I just placed an order for 2 pounds of dried white peaches. Hopefully this will be able to tide me over until the summer, when there should be a more abundant supply of white peaches.
Also, if you think that yellow peaches are better, you are mistaken, and I would DARE you to attempt to justify your reasoning here. Any argument you make, however, will be replied with a simple “white peaches are sweeter and more mild and more delicious. You are wrong,” so I don’t know if you want to play that game.
Maraschino cherries are also good. I imagine that if a maraschino cherry and a white peach had a baby, it would end the world.

mmmm, white peaches and Maraschino cherries soaking in light crisp white wine…that would be heaven. Today’s pointless remark: I can’t bite into whole peaches…one time I scraped my teeth on part of the pit and it gave me a sensory experience similar to nails on a chalkboard…ever since just thinking of biting into a peach gives me shivers.

Trader Joes has really good white dried peaches. Columbia sucks, I can’t find white peaches anywhere!

Fresh white peaches come in sometime during
August. Years ago there was only one orchard that carried them – Braeutigans in Belleville – and you had to put your name on a mailing list to be informed when they came in. Now Eckerts has them and they are truly wonderful. I like the regular yellow ones, too.

I like yellow peaches better because they are zingy and boisterous. The adjective “mild” would never apply to a yellow peach. No demure fruit for me!
