Okay, let's see if I can't finish up these reports on each one of my classes. Today we will look at CS455, also known as "Programming Languages and Systems". Maybe more accurately in my mind, "I have NO clue what this class is about, but I had the pre-reqs, and it fit into my schedule well."
I honestly have no clue what this class is about. So far we have been learning Scheme, which is a dialect of Lisp. I'm not a big fan of Scheme, but be quite honest with you, although you can do cool stuff like have functions that return functions, and pass functions as arguments. And it has some interesting stuff with lists. But, it is completely unlike any of the other languages that I claim to know, not only in syntax, but in how you have to think about programming. I'm constantly having to check myself, and tell myself not to think like "that" but to think like "this". Lots of people really seem to like Lisp, so I guess learning Scheme can't be a bad thing.
Prof. Kwasny, several times has mentioned interpreters, so perhaps that is what we are actually going to learn about. It really actually bothers me quite a bit that I go into class every day with absolutely no clue what is going to be taught.
I do know this, however. The class can be incredibly boring. So bad that sometimes it bores me to tears. Almost. I just want to bang my head into the wall to make the dullness go away.
Yeah... CS455 is not my favorite class. Not at all.
